in the harbours of the port of st.petersburg and farther westward in the sea
channel up to the longitude of kronstadt dam (029 40E)
-mainly open water.
westward up is ice-free.

in the top of vyborg bay - there are ice rind spots.

in the port of ust-luga and on approaches- open water.

Basis latest official forecast for the December 2019
it is expected that slow ice formation with interruptions
will be in December 1-20th.
Further, during next period - December 20-31st, more intensive ice formation is forecasted.
Generally December 2019 will develop according to mild type winter.

in the harbours of the port of st.petersburg and farther westward in the sea

farther westward - mainly open water.

in the top of vyborg bay - there will be close dark nilas ice.

- there will be dark close nilas ice 05-10cm thick,
farther westward up to the longitude of shepelevski lighthouse (029 07E)/ abt 10 nm off p/stn
-nilas and new ice.
farther westward - mainly open water.

in the top of vyborg bay - there will be close ice 05-15 cm thick.
in the entrance including port of vysotsk - new ice.

in the port of ust-luga and on approaches close to shore line
- mainly open water.

in the harbours of the port of st.petersburg and farther westward in the sea
channel up to the longitude of kronstadt dam (029 40E)
- there will be close drifting ice 15-25cm thick,
farther westward up to the longitude of shepelevski lighthouse (029 07E)/ abt 10 nm off p/stn
-open ice 10-15cm thick.
farther westward - mainly open water.

in the top of vyborg bay - there will be fast ice 15-25 cm thick.
in the entrance - nilas and new ice.

in the port of ust-luga and on approaches close to shore line
- nilas and new ice.

The provisional forecast of the ice conditions on the Gulf of Finland for winter 2019-2020.

It is expected that the ice conditions during the forthcoming winter 2019-2020 will develop
according to mild type winter. Ice growing progress and thickness will be close to mean annual values.

Intensive ice formation in Neva Bay is forecasted
from the January 2020.

The expected time of appearance of drifting ice:
up to the Moshchnyy island (027 49E / abt 50nm off from roads of st.pete)
- week 03-04 / second half of January 2020

and to the longitude of Gogland island (027 00E // abt 80 nm off from roads of st.pete)
- week 04-05th / end of January 2020.

The maximum development of the ice conditions will be reached in the beginning of March 2020,
which is close to mean annual periods.
In that period the fast ice 30 - 50 cm thick is expected in the harbours of the port of st.petersburg
and upto the Kronshtadt dam / outer road of st.pete.
Farther up to the moshchnyy island (027 49E / abt 50nm off from roads of st.pete)
- there will be very close, hummocked ice 20-45cm thick.
Farther to the longitude of Gogland island (027 00E / abt 80nm off from roads of st.pete)
-close drifting, partly ridged ice 20 - 45 cm thick is expected.
Further up to the longitude of Tallinn (024 45E)
- open, drifting ice thickness 15-30 cm is expected.

there may be no min ice class restrictions at all
(it means that vsls without ice class most probably will be accepted all ice season 2019-2020,

portcall of restricted vsls will not be approved by Harbor Master,
exceptions only for vsls with DWT more then 30,000 and age less then
15 years with special Ice Safety Certificate issued by Russian Register

the forthcoming ice traffic to ports of st.petersburg, vysotsk,
primorsk, vyborg and ust-luga.

there are 6 liner ice breakers: 'kapitan sorokin', 'ermak', 'murmansk',
'kapitan nokolaev', 'vladivostok', 'sant-petersburg'
+ in case of severe ice season there will be one additional liner new built ice breakers: 'viktor chernomyrdin'

there are 7 port ice breakers: 'mudjug', 'semen degnev', 'ivan kruzenshtern', 'kapitan plakhin',
'kapitan zarubin', 'kapitan izmailov', 'yuriy lisyansky'

HM office warning:
Every ship, navigating in ice, shall have available all the necessary supplies of fuel,
fresh water and provisions for at least 20 days.
All ships proceeding in ice conditions to and out of the sea port when in ice convoy with ice-breaker
shall ensure manual mode of the main engine control whenever necessary.
Ship's company manual must have ice clause (instructions from Owners)
in case of its absence PSC/MoU may punish the master/vsl
